The Sisterhood of Magdalene

“And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy” -Acts 2: 18 (See also Joel 2: 29)

The Sisterhood of Magdalene is the Senior Order of the Sisterhood of Chrsit. It is a Sisterhood of Elders and High Priestesses of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Mary Magdalene by Giovanni Gerolamo Savoldo

“Then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odor of the ointment.” – John 12: 3

“And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him.” – Mark 16: 1

“Jesus saith unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? She, supposing him to be the gardener, saith unto him, Sir, if thou have borne him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away. Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master. Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God. Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord, and that he had spoken these things unto her.” – John 20: 15-18

The Presidency of the Sisterhood of Magdalene has the right to officiate in all the offices of the Sisterhood and the Ministry in the Fellowship. The President of the Sisterhood of Christ is a member of the First Presidency, and thus the prophetess, seer, and revelator for the Fellowship. She is known as the Elect Lady of the Fellowship, so titled after revelation given to Emma Smith, the Church’s first Elect Lady.

“A Revelation I give unto you, Emma Smith, concerning my will: Behold thy sins are forgiven thee, and thou art an Elect Lady whom I have called..” –Doctrine and Covenants 24:1a, 1c CoC/25:1, 3 CJCLdS

The leader of the Sisterhood in local congregations are known as the congregations’ Pastor or Bishop, and serve in the local Bishopric. They preside over the Sisterhood of the congregation as the Fellowship’s Elect Lady presides over the Sisterhood for the Church of Jesus Christ in Christian Fellowship.

High priestesses have a right to officiate in their own standing, under the direction of their presidency, in administering spiritual things, and also in the duties of the Benevolent Society of Elder, Priestesses, Teachers, Deacons; and of lay members. A High Priestess has they keys and the right to officiate Initiatories and Endowments. They may lead in the Order of Prayer and the True Order of Prayer within the the assemblies of their Society.

The Elders and High Priestesses are to administer in spiritual things, agreeable to the covenants and commandments of the Fellowship; and they have a right to officiate when there are no higher authorities present.

While much of the work of the Society is to administer to the poor and needy, and helping the sick and afflicted, the full extent of the roles of the Sisterhood have yet to be revealed. It is our prayer that the Lord will reveal the Fellowship’s Elect Lady that we may obtain these revelations.
